Pasta is an excellent black canvas that can be dressed with whatever you’ve got in the fridge or pantry, from colorful vegetables and meat to scrumptious cheese and convenient legumes.

Italians eat pasta almost every day.

I grew up eating pasta, especially bowls of meatless pasta dishes like pasta with lentils, spaghetti aglio e olio, or pasta puttanesca, my mum’s favorite meal.

I’m still a huge fan of one-pot pasta recipes with legumes and vegetables, which are convenient and filling family meals that I can whip up during busy weeknights.

But we also love no-frills bucatini cacio e pepe, spaghetti with olives, and a simple yet delicious tomato sauce with basil.

But the variety of Italian pasta recipes is incredible. If you prefer Italian classic recipes featuring beef or fish, this popular Italian website offers hundreds of delicious ideas to inspire you.

In this roundup, I’ve gathered simple, hearty pasta dishes we used to eat daily. And I still cook them for my family. They are meatless but still full of flavor and nutrients.

Italian Pasta Recipes

Is pasta good for your health?

Pasta is nutritionally balanced as long as it’s eaten in moderation, especially if cooked with vegetables and plant-based protein. It’s also a good idea to choose whole-grain pasta most often, which provides more benefits, fiber, and micronutrients than refined “white” pasta.

When we are short on time, pasta is a no-brainer and makes a quick, satisfying meal. However, when pasta is a staple in our daily diet, the best option is to pack your bowl with plenty of fiber and veggies like those listed below.

    1. HI Joe. I’m not a nutritionist, but I’m happy to get my daily protein from beans, chickpeas, lentils, and cheese. And I’m perfectly fine as I run and exercise regularly, including weight lifting.
