Ingredients
2large apples, peeled and diced
½lemon, juice
¼teaspoonground cinnamon
1egg
½lemon, zest
3 tablespoons(40 grams)sugar
2 ½ tablespoon(40 ml)milk
½ teaspoonvanilla extract (optional)
¾ cup + 1 tbsp(100 grams)all-purpose flour
vegetable oil, for frying
1teaspoonbaking powder
To serve
½ - 1 tablespoonpowdered sugar
Instructions
Peel and dice the apples. Add them to a small bowl and stir in the lemon juice and cinnamon. Set aside.
Add the egg, sugar, milk, and lemon zest to a bowl and whisk with a fork or a whisker. Add the flour and baking powder, and stir until smooth and lump-free. Add the chopped apples to the batter and toss until combined.
Add 1-inch deep vegetable oil to a frying pan on medium heat. To check if the oil is ready for frying, use a thermometer (the temperature should be 350°F/175℃). Alternatively, stick the end of a wooden spoon into the oil. The oil is ready for frying if bubbles appear around the wood.
Next, spoon and transfer a small amount of apple batter to the frying pan (each fritter should be about 2 inches/5 cm wide). Keep them about 1 inch apart and fry for about 60 seconds per side until golden, and the batter inside is fully cooked. Use a slotted spoon to transfer fritters to a plate lined with kitchen paper.
How to bake apple fritters: Preheat the oven to 400℉/205℃, and grease a non-stick baking sheet with oil. Spoon a small amount of apple fritter batter onto the sheet, keeping them 1 inch apart. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and bake for about 10-12 minutes until golden.
Serve your apple fritters while they're freshly made and still warm, and dust them with powdered sugar (optional). Enjoy!
